Chennupati Kodanda Ramaiah, Dean, School of Media and Communication, Pondicherry University, has been awarded the Bharat Gaurav Award 2017 of the India International Friendship Society for his meritorious services, outstanding performance and contributions to education.

The award was presented to Dr. Ramaiah by Bhishma Narain Singh, former Governor of Tamil Nadu and Assam, in the presence of Shivraj Patil, former Union Home Minister, at a function at India International Centre, New Delhi.

Dr. Ramaiah, who had an illustrious career of 34 years covering both research and teaching, worked for 14 years as a scientist of the Defence Research and Development Organisation in Delhi. He has authored five books and published over 125 research papers in national and international journals, which are referred extensively, according to a press note.

He has brought out five special issues of Desidoc Journal of Library and Information Technology (DJLIT); Multimedia Applications in Libraries (1998), Online Exhibitions (2008), Electronic Books (2012), Applications of Online Exhibitions (2013) and Virtual Exhibitions in January 2014.

He is on the editorial board of DJLIT, IATLIS Journal of Library Education and Research and an International Review Board member. Apart from a doctorate in Information Science from the Loughborough University of Technology, Loughborough, U.K., he is a Commonwealth Scholar in the area of Information Science. He has presented papers and attended over 50 various national and international conferences and visited over 15 countries.

Dr. Ramaiah is a National Member of Unesco-Unaoc Media and Information Literacy programme in India and was nominated for the inclusion of his biographical record in Marquis Who is Who in the World , twice in 1989 (9th edition) and in 2014 (31st edition) which is one of the leading biographic reference books in the world. His biography was covered in publications such as the Outstanding People of the 20th Century,Who’s Who in Australia and the Pacific Nations and Dictionary of International Biography .
