An eyesore: Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi wants a review of waste disposal at Manapet village in Puducherry.

Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi on Tuesday visited Bahour along with senior government officials, including PWD Chief Engineer and local administration department (LAD) director.

In a press release, the Lieutenant Governor said they visited Manapet village near Bahour to check the status of water bodies and wastage disposal. They identified land for waste management and its decentralisation at each village level so that people take responsibility.

The team planned immediate and short-term steps to dredge Manapet lake and use bio product in the lake and fish for eco balancing.

Ms. Bedi called for participation of non-governmental organisations for the maintenance and revenue generation by fish culturing with reference to an earlier government order. She sought to review dumping of waste in the Utchimedu lake.

She said that organising a meeting of NGOs, local MLA, Commune Commissioner, PWD and LAD, chaired by Chief Secretary, at Bahour will provide solution to waste disposal and pollution of water bodies.
