The 69th foundation day of the All India Bank Employees’ Association (AIBEA), organised under the aegis of the Cuddalore District Bank Employee’s Association (CDBEA), was observed at the Mehta Rangroop Mahal here on Friday last.

Speakers spoke about issues that afflicted the banking sector and the role played by the AIBEA in upholding the rights of the employees.

AIBEA treasurer E. Arunachalam expressed concern over undue delay in filling the vacancies. Workload had increased because of shortage of staff, he said.

The CDBEA felicitated two women autorickshaw drivers K. Razia Begum and M.Panjavarnam.

They were given free uniforms and cash assistance of Rs 2,000 to meet the educational expenses of their children. Though they had been in the profession for over eight years, no organisation had thought it fit to felicitate them, the women said.

Those who spoke included D.B. Renuka Thomas, joint secretary, Tamil Nadu Bank Employees’ Federation, R. Guruprasad, secretary, CDBEA, S. Meera, general secretary, Cuddalore Taluk Bank Employees’ Union, and K. Thirumalai of Retired Bank Employees’ Association.
