In a bid to ensure free and fair polls in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the Election Commission has banned all posters, banners wall paintings and cut-outs of political parties, candidates and their supporters in Puducherry.

The move is in keeping with the regulations to ensure that all candidates and parties are treated equally, District Collector said in a release.

Banners and posters cannot be displayed on public or private buildings and properties or vehicles. Strict action under the IPC would be taken against those who violate the regulations. The ban does not include any education or awareness material about voting rights and responsibilities issued by the Election Commission, the release added.
