Backward Classes panel to hold hearing soon

The National Commission for Backward Classes (NCBC) will hold a public hearing here on September 2 to consider the request of 10 communities for inclusion in the Central government’s Other Backward Classes (OBC) list for the Union Territory.

A release said the public hearing will be conducted by Justice V. Eswaraiah, Chairperson of the Commission, for consideration of requests regarding inclusion of the Ediga, Kanakkupillai, Kannadiar / Kannada Saineegar, Kudumbi (restricted to Mahe region only), Kongu Vellalar, Marudhu Naidu, Palayapattu Naidu, Vandayar, Vellala Chettiar and Vilakkithalavan / Vilakkithala Nair.

Associations, organisations and individuals of the above castes / sub-castes /communities are requested to appear before the Commission and furnish all available information / data regarding the above castes.
