Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday visited Sri Aurobindo Ashram. Mr. Modi arrived a little earlier at 10.30 a.m. The Prime Minister was received by the trustees of the ashram. He paid floral tributes to the “samadhi” of Sri Aurobindo and his spiritual collaborator Mirra Alfassa known as The Mother.
The Prime Minister visited Sri Aurobindo’s room where he carried out his spiritual experiments and sat in meditation for about 10 minutes. Mr. Modi wished to see the manuscripts of Sri Aurobindo.
The ashram has created a vault and all the available materials of Sri Aurobindo and The Mother have been preserved in scientifically controlled conditions. The Prime Minister later visited the Sri Aurobindo International Centre of Education (SAICE) and saw the projects made by children. He went around the school and saw the manner in which classes were held.
The Prime Minister looked at a display of how the school generated its own energy from solar panels. SAICE is said to be the first school in the country to achieve net energy positive status. The school uses only one-third of the electricity it generates and the rest is shared with the the grid.
Mr. Modi was treated to a show of the art works such as sculptures made by children of the ashram school. The Prime Minister was presented with books by Sri Aurobindo and photographs during his visit. Mr. Modi spent around 30 minutes in the school before leaving for Auroville.
