Arrangements for I-Day celebrations

In view of the Independence Day Celebrations on Monday at Uppalam Stadium in Puducherry, the Office of the Superintendent of Police Traffic (North-East), Puducherry, has appealed to the public to follow certain instructions.

On Monday, people with invitation cards have been requested to enter the venue via Vambakeerapalayam Road. Those provided with car passes can enter the Sports Complex through Gate No.1 and people without car passes can go through Gate No II to enter the Sports Complex on Vambakeerapalayam Road. Students participating in the march-past have been instructed to park their two-wheelers or cycles inside the premises of ITI for Women on Vambakeerapalayam Road opposite the Sports Complex.

No eatables inside venue

Veera.Balakrishnan, Superintendent of Police Traffic (North-East), in a press statement has requested the invitees and general public not to bring any hand bag, food packets, water bottles, cameras, cell phones and any other baggage with them. They have to get the cards checked by officials at the entrance and cooperate with security officials during checking and frisking, he said.

They have to occupy their seats before 8.30 a.m. and even those having invitation cards will not be allowed inside the venue after 8.30 a.m. They have to park their vehicles in the allotted parking space and secure them with extra locks before proceeding to the enclosure.

“After the function is over, the public is requested to remain seated and wait till the VIPs leave the venue,” the statement said.

General public without invitation cards have been requested by the traffic police to enter the venue via Ambedkar Salai (Uppalam Road). Arrangements have been made for them to park their two-wheelers at Petit Seminaire Primary School Ground.

Besides, parking arrangements for cars and other vehicles have been made at Uppalam Exhibition Ground. Women and children are requested to proceed to the enclosures meant to them.

Vehicle movement

Vehicular movement will not be allowed on the Beach Road on Monday between 6 a.m. and 1.30 p.m. and from 4 p.m. on Monday to 7.30 a.m. on Tuesday.

Anticipating a large crowd at Aayi Mandapam and Bharathi Park, vehicles including three-wheelers, will not be allowed to ply around Bharathi Parkat from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Monday.
