Rift in the AIADMK to the fore again

The rift in the Puducherry unit of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam has come into the open with two prominent leaders calling separate meetings to discuss the anniversary celebrations of the former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa falling in February.

Former legislator Om Sakthi Sekar, who is considered close to Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam, held a meeting on Tuesday to discuss plans to celebrate the event.

Ramadass attends

The meeting was attended by the former Member of Parliament M. Ramadass.

The meeting passed a resolution urging the Government to install a life-size bronze statue in Puducherry as a fitting memorial for the former Chief Minister.

Mr. Sekar thanked the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami and Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam for unveiling a portrait of the party supremo Jayalalithaa in the Tamil Nadu Assembly on February 12.

Resolution adopted

On Wednesday, party leader in the Legislative Assembly, A. Anbalagan, convened a meeting to prepare plans for the celebrations.

The meeting adopted a resolution to conduct the celebrations in a grand manner.

The meeting decided to distribute welfare assistance to the poor and organise feasts.

Party MLAs A. Baskar, Vaiyapuri Manikantan and State secretary P. Purushothaman attended the meeting.
