The president of Bharatiya Janata Party, Amit Shah, will visit Puducherry on June 13 as part of his whirlwind tour of the country ahead of the Lok Sabha elections in 2019.

Shortly after the State executive committee meeting of the party, local unit president of the party V. Saminathan told The Hindu that Mr. Shah would interact with cadre and prominent people to set the agenda for building the party in the Union Territory. The local unit in consultation with national leadership would chart out the programme of Mr. Shah, he said. The executive committee passed several resolutions, including the one condemning the ruling Congress for the deteriorating law and order situation. The law and order situation had worsened in the last few months, he said.

The party criticised the government for not fulfilling any of its electoral promises. The government had not taken any steps to address the growing unemployment problem in the Union Territory, Mr. Saminathan said.

The BJP had come out strongly against the ruling front for its failure to check corruption in government departments. Corruption had become rampant in every department, he added.

The local unit lauded the Union Government’s decision to move a Bill in the Lok Sabha to accord Constitutional status to the Other Backward Classes Commission.
