Students of Dr. Ambedkar Government Law College, Puducherry, met Chief Minister N. Rangasamy on Wednesday demanding a rollback of the hike in tuition fees, which they said was not done despite repeated requests.

The students said they met the Chief Minister twice earlier and he had ordered the college to reduce the fees. However, the college authorities did not implement it saying that they were yet to receive an order from the Directorate of Higher and Technical Education.

The annual tuition fee was hiked from Rs 750 to Rs 3500 last year, said Anand, a representative of the Students Federation of India (SFI). Last time, the Chief Minister had ordered that the fees be reduced to Rs. 1,000, but it was not done. This time, the Chief Minister has promised that the fees will be reduced to Rs750, said Mr. Anand. Students also complained of seats lying vacant.
