AINRC, AIADMK MLAs meet BJP chief

Both the groups reiterate their support to Ram Nath Kovind

Days after the AINRC had extended its support to the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) presidential candidate Ram Nath Kovind, party MLAs, led by Leader of Opposition and former Chief Minister N. Rangasamy, on Monday called on the BJP national president Amit Shah who is on a two-day visit to the city.

Although the AINRC has eight MLAs, only five, including Mr. Rangasamy, attended the meeting with Mr. Shah. T.P.R. Selvam, P.R.N. Thirumurugan, and Chandra Priyanga were not part of the meeting. The AINRC had contested the last Lok Sabha elections with the support of the BJP.

3 AIADMK MLAs turn up

Three of the four AIADMK MLAs, led by legislature party leader A. Anbalagan, also had a meeting with Mr. Shah. Both the parties claimed that they had extended their support for the BJP nominee for the presidential polls.

The meeting lasted an hour.

When contacted, Mr. Anbalagan said the MLAs had extended support to the BJP nominee as per the directions of the AIADMK (Amma) Deputy general secretary T.T.V. Dinakaran.
