AIDWA seeks CBI probe into women’s suicide

December 30, 2014 10:42 am | Updated April 07, 2016 06:10 am IST - PUDUCHERRY:

Volunteers of the All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) staged a demonstration here on Monday demanding a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the recent incident of suicide by three women after they were evicted from Sri Aurobindo Ashram run premises on the directions of the Supreme Court.

“Govt. quiet’’

AIDWA general secretary Sudha Sundararaman said that the Puducherry government was keeping quiet without taking any action even after the three women had ended their lives.

The women had made allegations of sexual harassment against the Ashram.

There should be transparency in the working of the Ashram as the incident had come as a shocking development.

A thorough probe should be ordered to unearth the truth.

Ms. Sudha Sundararaman also wanted the Puducherry government to order a CBI probe into the alleged involvement of police officers in the child sex racket in Puducherry.

She said that there was no safety for women in Puducherry and AIDWA would not rest till justice was meted out to the victims.

Though Puducherry was promoted as a peaceful city the fact was that women here had no safety and the government has also not implemented the various legislations enacted by the centre for protection of women, she added.
