The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam(AIADMK), Puducherry unit on Thursday sought a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation into alleged irregularity at the Government-run Puducherry Agro Products, Food and Civil Supplies Corporation (PAPSCO).

Addressing press persons here, AIADMK Legislature Party Deputy Leader A. Anbalagan said PAPSCO Chairman A.Tamil Selvane and other officials are wholly responsible for shortcomings in the organisation. He alleged that in spite of running profitable business, PAPSCO has not paid dues to the tune of Rs.34 crore towards procurement of commodities.

The AIADMK leader also charged that the PAPSCO is overstaffed with more than 1,400 persons though only around 500 persons are required. Most of them belong to a few particular constituencies. The officials and politicians made the Corporation as sick unit for the last five years.

Pointing out that there was business worth Rs.235 crore done in the last year, he said there could be at least Rs.23.50 crore of profit. However, the dues of Rs.34 crore remain unpaid by PAPSCO.

“Large scale corruption was committed by officials jointly. Appropriate probe should be ordered into the alleged irregularities,” said Mr. Anbalagan while seeking probe by the CBI into it.
