AIADMK demands filing of contempt petition against officials

The Puducherry unit of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam on Monday wanted the government to file a contempt petition against officials who issued orders related to disbursement of salary and MLA Local Area Development fund to three BJP MLAs nominated by the Centre.

Addressing a press conference here, party leader A. Anbalagan said the officials issued the orders when the High Court was hearing a Public Interest Litigation on the issue of nominated MLAs.

The Assembly had budgeted MLALAD fund for this financial year to 30 elected representatives. That the MLAs were yet to get funds for taking up work in their constituencies was a different matter, he added.

The AIADMK leader said the officials were taking decisions without consulting the Chief Minister and the Ministers concerned.

The present state of affairs gave an impression that the bureaucratic machinery was not under the control of the Chief Minister, the AIADMK leader said.

Mr. Anbalagan said the Lt. Governor was running a “parallel government” and officialdom was completely divided.

He said the party should approach the Election Commission to disqualify the Congress and DMK legislators for holding the office of profit.
