Agricultural officer sentenced to three years RI in graft case

The Principal District Sessions Court has convicted and sentenced an agricultural officer to three years’ rigorous imprisonment for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. 2,000.

The Central Bureau of Investigation, Anti-corruption Wing, Chennai registered the case in 2010 against B. Vasudevan, the agricultural officer of Puducherry Government, for demanding a bribe of Rs 2,000 from the complainant G. Viswanathan for processing his subsidy application for construction of a tube well and installation of submersible pump-sets in his agricultural land.

Caught red-handed

According to a press release from the CBI, Vasudevan was caught red-handed by CBI while demanding and accepting the bribe amount from the complainant on May 18, 2010.

After the completion of trial, the Principal District Judge C.V. Karthikeyan sentenced B.V asudevan to undergo 3 years’ rigorous imprisonment besides imposing a fine of Rs 20,000.
