The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Sunday demanded the resignation of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan over the mysterious deaths in the Vyapam scam and called for a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe monitored by the Supreme Court.

Speaking to reporters after a demonstration, former Delhi Law Minister Somnath Bharti said over 44 people had died under mysterious circumstances since the scam first broke out.

The BJP government which had promised a corruption free governance had failed in its entirety to do justice to the victims.

Mr. Bharti said the Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had ordered for a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) only after AAP leader Kumar Vishwas had approached the Supreme Court demanding a thorough probe into the scam.

Expressing concern about the impartiality of a CBI probe ordered by the Madhya Pradesh Government, he said that the probe should be conducted under the direct supervision of the Supreme Court. This scam is not only about money but involves the lives of so many people.

People who have been appointed as Doctors in the last one decade are not properly qualified and this is a matter of deep shame, he further alleged.

The AAP demands that Mr. Chouhan should resign and face prosecution by the CBI.

He accused the Centre of blatant misuse of police by registering FIRs against AAP MLAs in Delhi while those involved in corruption are given police protection.

AAP Puducherry unit coordinator Rangarajan and secretary Ravi Srinivasan were also present.
