Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi visited the Central Prison in Kalapet on Sunday to ‘energise prison reforms.’

Ms. Bedi, who was accorded a guard of honour, later held interactions with the Inspector General of Prisons, officials and representatives of NGOs on prison reforms. She was then introduced to the representatives of the NGOs — Sahaj Yoga, Sri Aurobindo Society, World Vision and and Prison Ministry— who shared their experience and their ongoing work with the prison inmates.

3C model

The Lt. Governor stated that prison reforms should be comprehensive and should touch every prison inmate. To achieve this objective, she advocated a 3C model — Collective, Corrective and Community based — wherein the officials and NGOs, work in tandem with prisoners to bring about the reforms.

Earlier, the weekly yoga session was held on the lawns of the Raj Nivas.

Yoga teachers from Isha Yoga Foundation led the session which was attended by students and members of the general public.
