Communist Party of India (CPI) national secretary K. Narayana on Saturday said the demonetisation move of Prime Minister Narendra Modi had hit the poor hard and it was implemented with an utmost dictatorial mood.
Mr. Narayana alleged that the Prime Minister had leaked out his plan to demonetise high-value currency to various corporate barons. He told presspersons that the entire exercise had hit the poor hard and sought to know how the government planned to eliminate black money without focusing on the wealth stashed abroad in various other forms.
Mr. Modi had not eliminated corruption or black money since black money had been converted into white money through various other modes, he said. The demonetisation move was an injurious measure and the CPI had decided to launch nationwide agitation from January 3 to condemn the pro-rich and pro-corporate policies of the Centre.
The CPI demanded the Centre to sanction ex gratia relief to those who had died while waiting in queues in front of the banks and ATMs in different parts of the country, post demonetisation.
