The local unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party has urged the Union Railway Ministry to commence rail service between Puducherry and Cuddalore.

In a memorandum to Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu, local unit president of the party V. Saminathan said train service between Puducherry and Cuddalore would be of immense help to commuters. The line would facilitate easy access to commuters travelling to Chidambaram, Karaikal, and Thanjavur region.

Mr. Saminathan said he met Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare J.P. Nadda and apprised him of the need for additional funding to the Jawaharlal Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education and Research to improve medical facilities.

The BJP leader said Mr. Nadda had promised to develop the JIPMER campus at Karaikal into a top notch institute for cancer treatment.

Mr. Saminathan said he had urged the Minister to expedite the civil work so that the campus could be opened at the earliest. The Minister’s assistance was sought to increase seats for Puducherry students at JIPMER, he said.
