The four AIADMK legislators in Puducherry, in all likelihood, will go with the party faction that forms the government in Tamil Nadu.
The legislators, who have not openly revealed their cards, are learnt to have adopted a cautious stand of not reacting to the developments in Tamil Nadu.
The MLAs, who were the first of the lot to openly request V. K. Sasikala to take over control of the party, started adopting an independent line after Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam revolted against Ms. Sasikala.
Ever since the power struggle between the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and party general secretary came out in the open, the legislators here on their part have gone incommunicado.
Sources in the party said the legislators would have tilted towards Ms. Sasikala if the Supreme Court verdict came in her favour.
They would be taking an open stand only when there is complete clarity about a stable AIADMK government coming to power.
It could be interesting to see the stand of the legislators if the government formation turned out to be on sticky wicket, said a party functionary. “I will not be surprised if they take an independent stand,” said a political observer.
Interestingly, Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy, while responding to the developments in Tamil Nadu, said “his government was closely monitoring the developments.”
Meanwhile, the expelled former party legislator, Om Sakthi Sekar, continued his tirade against Ms. Sasikala.
Reacting to the SC verdict convicting her in the disproportionate assets case, Mr. Sekar said “justice has prevailed.”
The court order has put an end to her aspiration to illegally occupy the Chief Minister’s post, Mr Sakthi Sekar said.
Appealing to the legislators and party cadres to rally behind the caretaker Chief Minister, he said her conviction had paved the way for Mr. Panneerselvam to run a good government.
Mr. Sekar was expelled from the party by Ms. Sasikala after he openly supported the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister.
