61 differently-abled persons get welfare aid

P. Rajavelu, Minister for Welfare and Tourism, has distributed welfare assistance to 61 differently-abled persons from the Karaikal region.

An aggregate of Rs. 23.79 lakh loan assistance was released to the beneficiaries for 2014-15 for running petty, grocery shops, provisional store, computer store and other businesses. The programme was held under the auspices of the Puducherry Corporation for Development of Women and Differently-abled Persons Ltd. The Corporation was set up to promote entrepreneurship among women and differently-abled persons for their uplift in society. Towards this objective, the Corporation undertakes training programmes and extension of loan assistance. At Karaikal, the Corporation provided financial aid through the National Handicapped Finance and Development Corporation set up under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.

The aid was disbursed in the presence of P. Priyatarshny, Managing Director of Puducherry Corporation for Development of Women and Differently abled Persons.
