The CB-CID police have arrested four persons, including a AINRC functionary, in connection with the murder of Velalagan, at Thirubhuvanai near here on April 19. A dispute over hiring contract labourers in factories was believed to be the reason for the murder.

The accused have been identified as J. Karthikeyan alias Ramesh (36) of Sanniyasikuppam, M. Sivaraman alias Sivarama Krishnan (25) of Vengata Nagar, J. Senkathiravan (44) of Sanniyasikuppam and V.Udhaya Kumar (44) of Thanthai Periyar Nagar in Puducherry.

Velalagan, also an AINRC functionary and labour contractor was driving from Thirubhuvanai to Kothapurinathan when a gang intercepted his car at Thiruvandarkovil on April 19. The gang threw a country made bomb into his vehicle, hacked him to death and fled.

Talking to reporters, Senior Superintendent of Police (Crime and Investigation) V.J. Chandran said the accused, Ramesh and Sivarama Krishnan, had confessed to their involvement in the murder. The duo was instigated by Udhayakumar and Senkathiravan.

Velalagan had developed good contacts with the local youth and villagers of Thirubhuvanai by hiring them as contractual labourers in private factories in the area. The victim started hiring contractual labourers and catering services in a number of companies.

Owing to professional rivalry, Udhayakumar had planned to eliminate Velalagan, and with the help of Senkathiravan engaged Ramesh and Sivarama Krishnan, who committed the murder.

Mr. Chandran said efforts were on to nab few others who were involved in the murder.
