The Union Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) will be setting up a 3D manufacturing facility in the city with assistance of international partners to assist industries with fast emerging technologies, Amarendra Sinha, Special Secretary and Development Commissioner, Ministry of MSME said here on Friday.

Once the industry has verified and given their ideas, the Manufacturing Technology Centre, United Kingdom and Fraunhofer Institute, Germany who are the technological partners of MSME will assist in setting up the facility.

The design is already complete and the facility is expected to go on stream in two years, he said.

Participating in an interactive session organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Mr. Sinha said that a Flavour and Fragrance Development Centre (FFDC) would be coming up in Karaikal to produce fragrance oil and flavours from Lemon Grass.

The Ministry already has a similar facility in operation in Uttar Pradesh.

He urged the Puducherry government to allot 5 acres of land at the Krishi Vigyan Kendra in Puducherry for establishment of an Extension Centre of FFDC here for benefit of people in and around the city. Puducherry would be ideal for the Extension Centre due to the heritage portion of the city and the sense of beauty, flavour and fragrance here.

Chief Secretary Chetan B. Sanghi said that two exclusive colleges for skill development would be established in Puducherry and Karaikal.

The government has identified the location and the institutions where they will be anchored. The projects are on course and will be kickstarted by June this year.

The government had also proposed setting up two new industrial estates in an expanse of 200 acres at Sedurapet and 25 acres in Mettupalayam in Puducherry.

Apart from this the Tool and Technology Centre and credit line for working women entrepreneurs in Puducherry at Rs.100 crore are on course, Mr. Sanghi said.
