30 colleges battle it out at AURA 2016

Engineering and arts colleges will also be part of the show this year

The much-awaited AURA 2016, the four-day sports and cultural festival organised by Pondicherry Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), began on Wednesday with sports events.

This year, not only students from medical colleges but also engineering and arts colleges geared up to duel it out and claim prizes in the numerous events this year. Nearly 30 colleges have arrived to take part in the sports events ranging from football, basketball and cricket.

The formal inauguration of the seventh edition of the annual intercollegiate festival at PIMS, AURA, was held on Thursday. The cultural fest took off with the inaugural ceremony where the staff, students, and other participants entered the packed auditorium which was amazingly themed, ‘Pirates.’

Jacqueline Kapur, an entrepreneur and founder and managing director of Ayesha accessories, was the chief guest. After her address, she along with the Dean UG Anita Ramdas, and Vice Dean UG Johnny Asir displayed the AURA 2016 T-shirt. This was followed by two electrifying and spectacular dances by the nursing and medical students.

The second day saw varied cultural events from ‘Variety Show’ – variety of acts performed to showcase a group level of talent. Abdur Rahman University, Chennai bagged the first place followed by Vinayaka Mission Medical College, Karaikal. The ‘Solo Dance’ entertained the audience. The participants showcased various dance styles and. At least 25 participants took part in this event and Asan Memorial College took home the first place.

For those interested in a bit of mystery and finding the hidden spy within oneself, there was The ‘Campus Crime Diaries’ – where two people join forces to break down different clues as they explore the campus ruling out different suspects for the murder case given to them. A total of nine team challenge each other out of which the top three teams battle for the first place on Friday.

Diehard fans of motion cinema came together to bag the prize in ‘Cine quiz’ event. Aarupadai Veedu Medical College (AVMC), Puducherry, won the first place. Many more events were organised throughout the day.
