13,163 children clear Plus Two exams

Pass percentage this year is 87.32; 90.52% girls clear the exam, while 83.61% boys make it in Puducherry, Karaikal regions

Once again, girls scored better than boys in the Class XII examinations in Puducherry and Karaikal regions, results for which were announced on Wednesday.

The pass percentage of girls was 90.52 and 86.61 for boys in the higher secondary public examination (second year).

Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy told presspersons here that 15,075 students from government and private schools appeared for higher secondary public examination (second year) held in March 2018, including 8,088 girls and 6,987 boys. Of this, 13,163 students — 5,842 bys and 7,321 girls — have cleared the examination. He said the total pass percentage in Class XII examination this year was 87.32.

“This is 0.64 percentage points more than last year. The total pass percentage of girls and boys in Puducherry and Karaikal regions was 90.52 and 83.61 respectively,” he said.

He added that 81.35% of the girls and 62.90% of the boys passed in government schools. “The total pass percentage of girls in private schools was 99.16 as against 97.01 among boys,” he said.

In Puducherry region, 12,765 students, including 6,736 girls and 6,029 boys, appeared for the examination. Of this, 11,245 students — 6,131 girls and 5,114 boys — cleared the examination.

“The total pass percentage in Puducherry region was 88.09. Of this, the pass percentage in government and private schools was 73.19 and 98.57 respectively,” said the Chief Minister.

In Karaikal region, 2,310 students — 958 boys and 1,352 girls — appeared for the examination.

Of these, 1,918 students — 728 boys and 1,190 girls — cleared it. The pass percentage in Karaikal region was 83.03.

Girls fare better

“This year too, the girls have scored the highest pass percentage. We will focus on improving the performance of boys as well. We will help in the better interaction among parents, teachers and students. Steps will be taken to strengthen the contact between parents, teachers and students in each school,” he said.

The Chief Minister added that in Puducherry region, the pass percentage this year increased by 0.26 percentage points when compared to last year and there was 2.57 percentage points increase over the previous year in Karaikal region.

The pass percentage in the government schools in Puducherry and Karaikal regions was 73.76 which was 0.06 percentage points more than the previous year.

At least 51 schools in Puducherry and Karaikal regions scored centum. Of the 51 schools, only one school in Puducherry scored 100% pass in Class XII examination.

“A total of 327 students scored centum in different subjects.

“This includes four students in Chemistry, 19 in Computer Science, 29 in Mathematics, 7 in Economics, 111 in Commerce, 150 in Accountancy and 7 in Business Maths,” he said.

Minister for Education R. Kamalakannan, Director School Education L. Kumar and Joint Director R. Somasundaram were present.
