Power supply to 147 motor pumps used to draw water illegally from River Cauvery at various places in Pallipalayam were disconnected in the last one week.

Due to poor water level in Mettur Dam, water was not being released for irrigation.

But, 500 cusecs of water was being discharged from the dam for drinking purpose.

The district administration had already warned farmers not to draw water illegally from the river using motors. Farmers have drawn pipelines to take water from the river to their fields.

A team led by Kumarapalayam tahsildar Ragunathan; Public Works Department Assistant Engineer Swaminathan; and officials from the Tangedco inspected the areas and found 147 motors were being used to draw water illegally.
