Mumbai: A 22-year-old man has been arrested for flashing after a woman complained to the police, in Malad on Thursday. Police said the accused, identified as Salman khan, a labourer residing in Sanjay Nagar, Malad, had allegedly flashed the 24-year-old complainant.

They said around 10.15 p.m. on Thursday, the woman, a Goregaon resident, was outside a prominent five star hotel off the Western Express Highway with her friends, when the accused approached them. An officer at Dindoshi police station, where the case was registered, said Mr. Khan then flashed the group of women. “The complainant shouted for help, which attracted the attention of some passersby. They accosted the accused, and the victim called the police.”

He added that Mr. Khan was taken into custody and placed under arrest after being subjected to medical tests. He has been charged with committing an act intended to insult the modesty of a woman.

Police said Mr. Khan doesn’t have a criminal record. PI Ravi Adane, Dindoshi police station, said, “We will be recording statements of eyewitnesses and checking the spot for CCTV cameras for corroborative evidence.”

Lauding the woman for raising an alarm, police officers said a large number of incidents of sexual harassment go unreported as victims are unwilling to file a complaint.
