Navi Mumbai: The anti-extortion unit of Navi Mumbai has arrested a person from Vishakhapatnam, who had come to supply 28.5 kg of ganja. The drugs worth around ₹2.5 lakh was seized from Suresh Narsimha Bannot (28).

Acting on a tip-off, officials laid a trap outside Sanpada railway station on Saturday and nabbed the accused. Drugs were meant to be delivered to a person in Sanpada.

The police found a local train ticket from LTT to Sanpada, which revealed that the accused had come to Mumbai from Vishakhapatnam by train carrying the drugs in two bags. “The accused is a history sheeter. He is just a transporter while the main accused is in Vishakhapatnam. A team lead by assistant police inspector Deepak Shikhare has left for Vishakhapatnam,” said inspector Shirish Pawar from the anti-extortion unit.

A case against Bannot has been registered with the Sanpada police under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. Further investigations are on.
