Mumbai: After being on the run for more than four months, two directors of real estate firm Monarch Universal Group were arrested by the Kharghar police on Saturday in a cheating case.
The accused, Gopal Amar Thakur (41) and his brother Hasmukh Amar Thakur (42), had been absconding since an FIR was registered against them on April 28, said sub-inspector Nitin Shinde.
Narsingh Gopal Rathod (54), the complainant, had bought a shop from the developers in Luxuria Apartment at Sector 18, Kharghar in July 2013. Mr. Rathod had paid ₹46 lakh through cheque and cash. “However, the shop was not transferred in his name, nor was his money returned. The complainant registered an FIR against six partners of Monarch Universal Group and one real estate agent through whom he had bought the shop,” Mr. Shinde said.
The Thakur brothers were previously arrested by the economic offence wing of Navi Mumbai, and have cases registered against them in various police stations, he said.
The others wanted in the case are real estate agent Nitin Khandar and partners Ashok Narayani, Roshan Thakur, Anand Thakur and Sushil Makhija. The Thakur brothers have been arrested under Sections 420 (cheating), 406 ( criminal breach of trust) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 8 of the Maharashtra Ownership Flat Act.
