Two Mumbai policemen suspended over delayed action in minor rape case

Two Mumbai Police officers were suspended on Friday following allegations of callousness and insensitivity in dealing with the rape case of a five-year-old girl at Antop Hill two days ago.

The family members of the victim alleged that staff members of Wadala TT and Antop Hill police stations argued over jurisdiction for several hours even as their bleeding daughter awaited medical assistance.

Inquiry initiated

Following orders from Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, assistant police inspector Sanjeev Nimbalkar Antop Hill police station and assistant sub-inspector Jhavre of Wadala TT police station were suspended and an inquiry initiated against them. According to the family members, they and a group of youngsters spotted the girl around 11 p.m. and took her to Sion Hospital at 3 a.m., the time in between was spent by the policemen on debating who should take up the case.
