Nagpur: Two policemen were injured in a gun battle with Maoists in south Chhattisgarh’s Narayanpur district on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday. Officials said Maoists attacked a District Reserve Guard (DRG) team on a search operation in Kotkodo-Tamora, on the border of Narayanpur and Kanker districts. The DRG is Chhattisgarh Police’s dedicated anti-Maoist unit.

Chhattisgarh Police officers said PSI Sukku Ram Naroti and Head Constable Pareshwar Gawde were injured in the encounter near Cherpal village on the Bijapur-Gangaloor Road. Both were airlifted to Raipur for treatment. The DRG team recovered backpacks and other Maoist material from encounter spot. Police sources said two to three Maoists may have been killed in the encounter, but no bodies have been recovered yet.

In a separate incident, Maoists torched five construction vehicles in the State’s Bijapur district. No one was injured in the incident, police said.
