Panaji: Goa Congress president Shantaram Naik on Saturday said toppling the BJP-led coalition government would not be his priority, but the Congress is sure that the government will collapse on its own.

Talking to reporters at the Congress House after taking charge from his predecessor Luizinho Faleiro, Mr. Naik, who is shortly going to complete his term as the Rajya Sabha MP from Goa, said once the government collapses, the Congress will not shirk its responsibility in forming a government.

“And may I mention that I was the first person to use an IPad while giving a speech in the Rajya Sabha. All others started later on,” Mr. Naik said.

When asked about the BJP, which despite coming down from 21 to 13 in the Assembly election of February, formed the government, while the Congress has been languishing as Opposition, Mr. Naik said, “My priority is to build the party.”
