Vaishali Jajoo, the Thane resident who went missing and was found dead on Wednesday, had been depressed after being demoted at her workplace, police sources said on Thursday.

Jajoo (41), who lived with her husband and 15-year-old son in Raheja Gardens society in Thane (West), left her residence around 8.30 p.m. on Tuesday and never returned home. Early on Wednesday, her body was found on the tracks near Mulund railway station. The police believe she might have killed herself.

“We made some inquiries with the firm in Goregaon where Jajoo worked and with her family members. We learned that she had recently been demoted and had been issued a warning about irregularities n her work,” an officer with the Wagle Estate police station said.

The police will make inquiries with her colleagues, friends and family. They are also going through her call detail record. Senior police inspector Ravikant Malekar said, “We have asked her employers to send us a copy of their paperwork pertaining to the matter.”

The Kurla railway police, meanwhile, have registered an accidental death report in the matter.
