Mumbai: The Mumbai-Goa Tejas Express, which began operations in May, will be getting a new locomotive that has arrived from Southern Railway. The locomotive will be designed and specially run for Tejas Express from Monday.

According to Central Railway officials, the locomotive will be painted in the existing colour theme. “The locomotive arrived in the city on June 15. We have been working on it give it the best look possible to attract passengers. We have tried to design the loco with a team from the workshop to match the rest of the train’s body. The work will be completed by Sunday afternoon,” an employee at the Kalyan railway workshop, who requested anonymity, said.

The workshop has been busy with the maintenance trials and checks for running on track with and without load. Usually, locomotives are multi-purpose as they can be attached to any train which fits the criteria in case of emergencies like accidents or engine failure.

At present, the Tejas is pulled by a blue-coloured locomotive, commonly used in other trains as well. Ashok Kumar Singh, PRO, CR, said, “Our Staff and supervisors from Kalyan diesel locomotive shed have been working on it, and have designed a colour scheme similar to Tejas Express rake.” The train runs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays during the monsoon between June 10 and October 31.
