The HSC (Class XII) results are expected to be out on time after teachers assessing answer scripts withdrew their go-slow stir. The announcement by the Maharashtra State Junior College Teachers Association on Wednesday came after the State government conceded to some of their demands, and promised in writing to consider the rest.
State Education Minister Vinod Tawde also said in the Legislative Assembly that some demands were being met. The teachers had held meetings with ministers, education, finance and planning department officials to discuss their demands. The junior college teachers had been assessing a token single answer sheet per day during the stir.
Their demands include implementation of Seventh Pay Commission hikes, regularisation of teachers appointed after 2012, extension of retirement age, pension benefits, cashless mediclaim scheme and separation of Science and Maths into separate papers to reduce the stress burden on student.
Mr. Tawde has assured that teachers appointed after May 2012 would be scrutinised individually at a special camp between April 15 and April 19. Separating the Science and Maths papers has been left to the State education board’s discretion. While the medical insurance scheme will be started soon, extension of retirement age will be decided by another committee. Teachers holding degrees like Masters in Education or Philosophy or doctorates will be granted pay scales on par with senior college staff after assessing their potential to conduct research.
The teachers have also been assured of a follow-up meeting in May.
