Alleges involvement of political bigwigs

December 23, 2014 01:25 am | Updated May 23, 2016 05:01 pm IST - MUMBAI:

Demanding a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe into the alleged multi-thousand crore scam in the sale of co-operative sugar mills in Maharashtra to private companies, social activist Medha Patkar has charged that political bigwigs were involved in it.

“The Maharashtra State Cooperative Bank lent money to sugar mills.

“The factories were deliberately made to incur losses and were then sold at throwaway prices to private companies to recover the loans,” said Ms. Patkar at a press conference in Mumbai on Monday.
