Law students have threatened to boycott the Masters in Law (LLM) examinations, since the Mumbai University has refused to postpone the exam and provide the students enough time to study.
The last admission list for the course was announced on January 10, and students were asked to pay admission and exam fees together. Despite protests from these students, the university pushed the LLM exams forward by only six days, from January 17 to January 23. Hence, the students of the new batch will have to give the exam within 13 days of taking admission.
However, Rashmi Oza, head of the Law department, said the department has completed the syllabus of most of the 641 students through “marathon lectures” and extra classes.
Dr. Oza said that since the university was the only institution offering a Masters in Law course, they increased the number of seats by 10% and adjusted 19 students. “We are prepared to conduct classes again for them. We had no option but to conduct exams within the scheduled time, as we cannot further disturb the semester pattern.”
The Law exam timetable has been affected by delays in announcement of results.
