The State government signed 11 partnership agreements with private firms and institutions to train 30,000 unemployed youths, on the second day of the Magnetic Maharashtra Summit on Monday.
Senior officials said most of the memoranda of understanding (MoUs) — signed under the Pramod Mahajan Kaushalaya Vikas and Udyojakata Abhiyan — are geared towards Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’s goal of skilling 5,00,000 youth in the agriculture sector by 2022. The other agreements will for training in the hospitality, healthcare and education sectors.
The firms which signed the MoUs include Mahindra Susten Pvt. Ltd, New Rishikesh Medical Foundation and Research Centre Pvt. Ltd, Yashaswi Academy, CLR Skills Training Foundation, Amity University, Apparel Training and Design Centre, Anjuman-I-Islam, The Village Care Society, TEMA India Ltd, and the Rayat Shikshan Sanstha.
The MoUs were signed by the Maharashtra State Skill Development Society (MSSDS), the nodal agency set up by the Department of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship.
D.D. Pawar, CEO of the MSSDS, said it aims at providing the youth an opportunity to acquire skills that are relevant to market demand, making them employable. “We will integrate efforts of various departments of the State and central government organisations, training partners in providing employment-oriented skill development training. As industry can play a crucial role in imparting relevant skill training, MSSDS seeks to engage interested partners directly to participate in skill development training,” he said.
The vocational training partners have been tasked with training and mobilising youth, while the cost will be borne by the MSSDS. The partners must generate placements for at least 75% of the candidates. The agreement is for three years, ending in February 2021. It may be renewed if the targets are achieved in a satisfactory manner, senior officials told The Hindu .
