Special team to crack Nerul theft case

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone-I) Sudhakar Pathare has ordered detection officers of eight police stations under his jurisdiction to form a team to crack the theft of ₹50 lakh from a jewellery shop in Nerul.

“In the past there have been similar cases in Thane, Bhayander and Mumbai. We are investigating the case by referring to those cases,” said Mr. Pathare. The detection officers are from Nerul, Rabale, Vashi, NRI Coastal, CBD Belapur, Sanpada, Koparkhairane and Turbhe MIDC police stations.

Gopal Singh Kannan Singh Sadana (27), owner of Mayura Jewellery, shut his shop at Vighnaharta Sadan at Sector 23 in Darave at Nerul on Sunday at around 11 p.m. and learnt about the theft only on Monday at 9 a.m. when he opened the shop. The accused stayed in a house behind the shop and the drilled into the common wall.
