Mumbai: Another petition was filed in the Bombay High Court on Wednesday challenging the order banning media from reporting and publishing the alleged Sohrabuddin fake encounter trial.

The Brihanmumbai Union of Journalists filed the petition, seeking to quash the order passed by the special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court on November 26, 2017.

Special Judge S.J. Sharma had said, “It may happen that publication [of reports] may create security problems for the accused, prosecution witnesses, defence team, and the prosecution. I, therefore, find justification in the request of the defence team of lawyers.”

Judge Sharma had also said, “In this case, the accused are the police of Gujarat, Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh, and the case has been transferred to the Mumbai court by the order of the Supreme Court. A number of witnesses have been examined by the State CID, Gujarat Police, and the CBI. Fifteen accused, who are ministers of Gujarat, Rajasthan, and high-ranking police officers, have been discharged, and the matter appears sensational. Charges have been framed against 22 accused who are police officials and private persons.”
