Maharashtra Police has ordered a probe into why the Raigad Police did not register an Accidental Death Report (ADR) after they found a burnt corpse, suspected to be of Sheena Bora, in 2012.

Superintendent of Police, Raigad Mohammed Suvez Haque said the Inspector General of Police, Konkan Range Prashant Burde will conduct the inquiry into the incident.

“Pen police station got information about a burnt body dumped at the spot on May 23, 2012. Three constables visited the spot, and conducted a spot panchnama . A doctor was called in to do a spot port-mortem. The body parts found were then sent to the J.J. Hospital in Mumbai. A station diary entry was made, but no Accidental Death Report was lodged. The inquiry will find out why an ADR was not registered,” Mr. Haque said speaking to reporters in Raigad.

The SP said the preliminary probe found that the police also did not collect the report from the JJ Hospital anatomy department as required. “The inquiry will also probe why the report was not collected. The original documents of the case have been handed over to Mumbai police, and at Investigating Officer’s request, the skeletal remains were exhumed yesterday,” he said.

On Friday, the investigators sent a team which dug the earth at the spot in Raigad where the body was dumped, and found skull and some skeletal remains suspected to of Sheena Bora. The skeletal remains were on Saturday handed over to the Kalina Central Forensic Lab for DNA testing. In three or four days, the forensic experts will be able to extract the DNA from the samples and match it with the samples taken from Indrani Mukherjea, the prime accused in her daughter’s murder.
