Navi Mumbai: The Shiv Sena has decided to nominate two first-time corporators to the standing committee of the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) after 20 corporators from the party resigned to protest against the decision to not nominate new members.

Veteran corporators Saroj Patil and Ranganath Auti have been replaced by Rucha Patil and Deepali Sankpal, two new corporators, as nominees. Similarly first-time corporator Sanju Wade will be nominated for the post of ward committee chairman from Airoli.

While the new corporators welcomed the decision, the veteran leaders who have been replaced are now upset. Saroj Patil said she was hurt by the party’s decision. “I am a very active corporator and I have toiled for the party. Yet they did not consider informing me before taking the decision,” she said.

Mr. Wade, meanwhile, said he was extremely happy with the decision. “The leaders took note of our grievance and have acted accordingly,” he said.

Vashi corporator Vitthal More, in charge ( sampark pramukh ) of the Belapur Assembly seat, said, “Around 20 corporators had tendered their resignations to me, but I had not accepted them. Instead, I had forwarded their grievance to Guardian Minister Eknath Shinde, Sena MP Rajan Vichare, Shiv Sena deputy leader Vijay Nahata and to party president Uddhav Thackeray. It seems that the party high command have looked into it and taken this decision.”

With the tenure of five standing committee members from the Sena ending on May 1, the first-time corporators were upset that only veteran leaders Namdev Bhagat, Saroj Patil, Dwarkanath Bhoir, Ranganath Auti and Vijay Chaughule were considered for the nominations.
