Navi Mumbai: Three months after the Bank of Baroda heist in Sanpada, the police have recovered another 1.25 kg gold, which was sold to a Jogeshwari-based jeweller by the main accused, Hajid Ali Safdar Ali Mirza Baig alias Langdya.
“We have invoked the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act against all 11 accused, who were remanded in police custody for 12 days. During interrogation, Mr. Langdya revealed about the jewellery, which was melted like the ones recovered earlier,” senior police inspector Suraj Padvi from Sanpada station said.
Mr. Langdya had plotted the crime, invested ₹8.5 lakh, and distributed the loot. Four more accused are still wanted, and the rest of the booty is said to be with them.
Of the valuables worth ₹3,43 crore stolen, 6.77 kg gold worth ₹1.63 crore, ₹12.29 lakh in cash, and 412 grams of silver worth ₹1.23 lakh have been recovered, making a total of ₹1.77 crore.
Two Ertiga cars, one Mahindra XUV, and one Maruti Swift Dezire worth ₹24 lakh were also recovered.
The bank robbery occurred on the night of November 11, 2017, after the accused entered the locker room by digging a 40 feet tunnel from a shop in the same building.
