The fresh trial in the 2002 hit-and-run case where actor Salman Khan is the accused, failed to commence for the second time on Tuesday.
Like the previous date, the witnesses failed to appear before the court on Tuesday too. Actor Salman Khan remained present throughout the short proceedings though.
The court adjourned the hearing till April 28 after the police showed inability to appear on any date prior to that, due to the upcoming parliamentary elections.
The court was to examine four injured witnesses in Tuesday's hearing. It is likely to examine some more witnesses on the next date. Public Prosecutor Jagannath Kenjalkar said that the actor will have to remain present in the courtroom during the fresh trial.
On September 28, 2002, Salman Khan had rammed his SUV on a pavement near a bakery, killing one person and injuring four. Reports had stated that he was under the influence of alcohol. He was earlier tried for rash and negligent driving, but later, section 304 part II of the Indian Penal Code (relating to culpable homicide not amounting to murder) was slapped against him.
The actor then sought fresh examination of witnesses in the light of the graver charge against him. The court had granted him permission for it.
