Navi Mumbai: After almost 20 days of two robberies in moving taxis in Navi Mumbai, the Pantnagar police have arrested two persons.

The accused, identified as Salman Abdul Rahim Khan (22), an AC mechanic, and Mohammad Noor Alam Rahim Rasul Khan (20), a taxi driver, were transferred to Navi Mumbai on a transit remand.

Five people nabbed

“Instances of passenger being robbed at late night in moving taxis were reported within the Pantnagar police station limits. The Pantnagar police nabbed five people, and we have got the custody of two while the process to get a transit remand of the other three is on,” said Ulhas Kadam, assistant police inspector from Turbhe police station.

The three accused in the custody of the Pantnagar police are Deepak Kumar Kalal, Mohammad Siraj Juman Shaikh, a taxi owner, and Ameer Mehboob Shaikh.

Modus operandi

According to the police, the modus operandi of the accused was to consume ganja at night and drive down various roads looking for passengers. Passengers who travelled with them considered it as a share taxi. All the accused are residents of Shanti Nagar in Wadala and they had been robbing people for the last two years.

The accused used to keep weapons in the cars so if needed, the passenger could be attacked. While Mr. Rasul Khan would get taxis on rent for the crime, Mr. Shaikh would use his own vehicle. “At times they worked as two teams,” said Mr. Kadam.
