Robbery bid on jewellery store foiled, 6 held

A plan to rob a jewellery store in Matunga was foiled after the robbers who spotted a team of patrolling policemen panicked and started running. The sight of the nine men fleeing raised suspicions and the cops gave chase and nabbed six of them.

Matunga police said the incident occurred on Tuesday night at Maheshwari circle. The arrested have been identified as Santosh Hayal (21), Badal Manna (34), Sumit Yadav (34), Rajan Das (23), Pradeep Natme (24) and Pratapsingh Manchanda (58). The police have recovered gas cutters, choppers, gas cylinders, hand gloves, screw drivers and black coloured caps from the accused.

The accused were remanded to police custody till August 20.
