RJ arrested in Qnet scam

A city-based Radio Jockey (RJ), Mr.Tarun Ratnani was arrested by the Mumbai police in the alleged Rs 425 crore Qnet scam.

The Economic Offence Wing (EOW), the specialised wing of the Mumbai police is probing Qnet, a Hong Kong- based company and its Indian franchise, Vihaan direct Marketing Selling Ltd for floating a binary scheme, where the existing members are asked to get other members and are paid commission for it.

The companies are being probed for violating the norms under the Prize Chitfind and Money Circulation Schemes (Banning) Act. An FIR against the company was registered in August, last year.

Mr.Ratnani , a popular jockey with a private FM channel was arrested on Monday for allegedly organising promotional programmes for the marketing firm with the aim to lure customers.

"The company paid him around Rs 50 crore for the camps held by him and we suspected he was aware of the firm dubious intentions and wilfully co-operated," a police source told The Hindu .

Mr. Ratnani has been remanded to police custody until November 10 and the police claims more arrests will follow. So far 10 people have been arrested in the case.
