A Mumbai sessions court on Monday began the re-trial in actor Salman Khan’s hit-and-run case of 2002, with the deposition of a witness.

The first witness to depose before the court was a police pancha (witness), Samba Gowda, who helped the police draw a panchnama (seizure reports) of the articles seized by the police on the day of the accident on December 28, 2002. One person had been killed and four injured after the actor’s SUV climbed onto the pavement where they were sleeping.

Mr. Gowda told the court that he saw glass pieces, number plate of the car and bumper parts lying on the spot and told the court that he could identify the articles seized that day. However, it could not be done as the material were not submitted by the lower court to the sessions court.

The matter has been adjourned to May 6.
