Navi Mumbai: Despite several attempts by a 17-year-old girl to save the boy who allegedly impregnated her with the promise to marry him, the Nerul police arrested him on Wednesday, almost two months after the case was registered.

In May, the parents found that their daughter was 22 weeks pregnant and registered a case. The girl, who did not want the police to nab him, revealed his fake name as Akshay Mhatre. But the boy was traced after the police gathered information from the victim’s friends and her call records, and found his real name as Akshay Bhoir, a Class XII dropout, from Pawane village in Turbhe.

Bhoir had befriended the girl through WhatsApp after he got her number from a common friend. While chatting, the victim mentioned about another boy who was trying to woo her and she was fed up of tackling him.

“To win her confidence, the accused staged to deal with the boy and also assaulted him. The victim soon fell for him and started meeting him at places wherever he asked her to come,” said assistant inspector Manish Kolhatkar from Nerul police station. The victim’s parents had approached the Thane sessions court with an application to terminate the pregnancy, but since as per the Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act, foetus above 20 weeks cannot be terminated, the court did not grant permission.

Meanwhile, when the case was registered, the victim had named Milind Patil, a gymnasium trainer, who had allegedly sexually assaulted her as he had rented them his house. Patil was arrested and is in Taloja jail.
