Post-mortem of the 11-year-old girl, who was found dead in Mulund on Saturday night, has confirmed sexual assault, the police said on Monday. The victim, a Mulund resident, went out to buy some groceries on Saturday. When she did not return for more than an hour, her parents started looking for her. She was found dead at around 10:45 p.m. under a container truck parked near the Octroi check post in Mulund.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Dattatray Bhargude, Mulund division, said on Monday that autopsy had confirmed that the victim was sexually assaulted before being choked to death. The police will now be adding sections for rape under the Indian Penal Code and relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act in the FIR of murder that they had registered against unknown persons.
When asked about the suspect, who had been detained on Saturday, Mr. Bhargude said, “We have some leads and should have results soon.”
Sources said the driver of the truck, under which the body was found, was being questioned, and that the police have taken DNA samples from him as he has not been cooperative.
